…A collection that connects heaven and earth, on a metaphorical level, of course! It is the connection between imagination and reality.
The duality of these two worlds sometimes does not coexist, that neither touch nor resemble each other. The utopic idea of living in spring all year round.
I am inspired by nature, colour, but also the idea of living in a better world.
What part of the creative process or work do you like best?
I really like it when I’m discovering a new way of creating/expressing myself that works and excites me, something I’ve never done before, then that’s when I enjoy creating and making pieces.
It’s when I work with the materials, when I let go, I cut them, I paint them, I file them, I make combinations until I find that way of expressing, which I don’t know why, but I know I’ve found.
What materials do you use?
I use different metals and materials depending on what I want to convey. I used wood, river stones, enamels, paints, also precious stones and precious materials like gold and silver. I like natural materials, which they transmit to me and transport me to nature.
Where can we buy or see your artwork?
Artistic collections of unique pieces in art galleries, or in exhibitions. The collections of smaller pieces and created in small series, I usually sell them personally in markets or through the digital store. I also have them in stores.
I make the pieces to order for specific people, turning their history into a jewel, and the workshop usually comes.
A tip for people who want to do something creative like this:
Patience, little by little, and chopping a lot of stone, not stopping to work, research, create and do.
How did the pandemic affect the way you work?
The pandemic has been a way to streamline and digitize my project. It was already my plan before the pandemic, but the actual situation has made me change and evolve more aware and faster than before.

FORA D’ÒRBITA
Fora d’òrbita és una col·lecció que connecta el cel i la terra, a nivell metafòric, és clar! És la connexió entre la imaginació i la realitat. La dualitat d’aquests dos mons que a vegades no conviuen, que ni es toquen ni s’assemblen. La idea utòpica de viure en una primavera tot l’any.
M’inspira la natura, el color, però també la idea de viure en un món millor.
Quina part del procés creatiu o del teu treball t’agrada més?
M’agrada molt quan estic descobrint una nova forma de crear/expressar-me que funciona i m’emociona, alguna cosa que abans no havia fet mai, després és quan gaudeixo de crear i fer les peces.
És quan treballo amb els materials, quan em deixo anar, els tallo, els pinto, els llimo, faig combinacions, fins que trobo aquella manera d’expressar, que no sé per què, però sé que ho he trobat.
Quins materials fas servir?
Utilitzo diferents metalls i materials depenent del que vull transmetre. He fet servir fusta, pedres de rius, esmalts, pintures, però també pedres precioses i materials preciosos, com l’or i la plata. M’agraden els materials naturals, que em transmeten i em transporten a la natura.
On es poden comprar o veure les teves obres d’art?
Les col·leccions artístiques de peces úniques a galeries d’art, o en exposicions. Les col·leccions de peces més petites i creades en petites sèries, les acostumo a vendre personalment a mercats o a través de la botiga digital. També les tinc en botigues.
Les peces per encàrrec les faig per persones concretes convertint la seva història en joia, i acostumen a venir el taller.
Un consell per a la gent que vol fer aquest ofici:
Paciència, a poc a poc, i picar molta pedra, no parar de treballar, investigar, crear i fer.
Com va afectar la pandèmia la teva manera de treballar?
La pandèmia ha sigut una manera d’agilitzar i digitalitzar el meu projecte, ja era el meu pla abans de la pandèmia, però ha fet que fos més conscient i més ràpid el canvi i l’evolució.
…Why ceramics?
At the end of 2016, I was working in an office uploading online content for a designer furniture company. I spent many hours in front of the computer and felt that I needed to do something with my hands, beyond picking keys. I signed up in front of my house to a ceramics workshop and that’s where the trip began …
What inspires your work? How would you define it?
Nature inspires me above all, I am fascinated by the forms and textures that I see everywhere. The seabed, corals, plants and animals. I am a sensitive and simple person, I like simple things and I think that is reflected in my pieces. The things that I create, whether in ceramics or in other disciplines, continue to be an extension of creative power and to prolong that essence or that which is part of me abroad.
What materials do you use?
I work mainly with high-temperature clay and my favourites are dark chamotte clay. In other words, clays that have a sandy texture, are my favourites, they work very well and are very resistant; but on the other hand, I also really like the fineness and delicacy of porcelain. Maybe I’ll end up joining them, who knows …
What is your favourite collection/piece?
My favourite piece is “Ara”. It is the first sculptural piece in which I openly show the simplicity of the piece. It is made with the churro technique and consists of joining clay “churros” in an upward spiral and “sewing” the parts making the process and how it is done visible. Your mind perfectly understands the piece even if it does not know exactly how it is made. That simplicity and clarity made me keep experimenting and perfecting this technique, creating all kinds of pieces and playing with the shapes and limits of each one.
In this collection, still unnamed, you can see this creation process. Dark clay or with chamotte, simple and enveloping shapes that do not leave you indifferent at first glance. In this session, both Dana and I wanted to show part of our work and share our way and passion for what we do, taking care of every detail.

What is your next collection about?

¿Cómo llegaste a la cerámica?
A finales de 2016 estaba trabajando en una oficina subiendo contenido online para una empresa de muebles de diseño. Pasaba muchas horas delante del ordenador y sentía que necesitaba hacer algo con mis manos, más allá de picar teclas. Me apunté enfrente de mi casa a un taller de cerámica y ahí empezó el viaje…
¿Qué inspira su trabajo? ¿Cómo lo definirías?
Me inspira sobre todo la naturaleza, me fascinan las formas texturas que veo por todas partes. El fondo marino, los corales, las plantas y animales. Soy una persona sensible y simple, me gustan las cosas sencillas y creo que eso se ve reflejado en mis piezas. Las cosas que creo ya sea en cerámica o en otras disciplinas no dejan de ser una extensión de poder creativo y de prolongar esa esencia o eso que forma parte de mí al exterior.
¿Qué materiales utiliza?
Trabajo principalmente con barro de alta temperatura y mis favoritos son los barros oscuros con chamota. O sea barros que tengan una textura arenosa, esos son mis favoritos, se trabajan muy bien y son muy resistentes; pero por otro lado, también me gusta mucho la finura y delicadeza de la porcelana. Quizás acabe uniéndolos, quién sabe…
¿Cuál es su colección/pieza favorita?
Mi pieza favorita es “Ara”. Es la primera pieza escultórica en la que muestro de manera abierta la sencillez de la pieza. Está realizada con la técnica del churro y consiste en ir uniendo “churros” de barro en espiral de forma ascendente y “cosiendo” las partes haciendo visible el proceso y cómo está hecho. Tu mente entiende perfectamente la pieza aunque no sepa exactamente cómo está hecha. Esa sencillez y claridad me hizo seguir experimentando y perfeccionando esta técnica, creando todo tipo de piezas y jugando con las formas y límites de cada una.
En esta colección, aún sin nombre, se puede ver este proceso de creación. Barros oscuros o con chamota, formas sencillas y envolventes que no te dejan indiferente a primera vista. En esta sesión, tanto Dana como yo, queríamos mostrar parte de nuestro trabajo y compartir nuestra manera y pasión por lo que hacemos cuidando cada detalle.

Sobre todo en mi perfil de Instagram La Alfareray en mi página web, también en mi estudio/taller donde trabajo y tengo un pequeño showroom con las piezas y stock de mi trabajo.
